about p.s.wHISKY
Hi,
I'm Paul Schlegel, P.S.Whisky. I am a whisky enthusiast and appreciator and I am always looking for a new challenge in my whisky journey. My aim is to spread the word about the wonderful world of whisky and encourage interest in the beautiful spirit in everyone from whisky novices to other enthusiasts and to do so through whisky tastings and reviews.
P.S.Whisky began in 2013 when my mere quaffing of whisky turned into an outright fascination with the Uisge Beatha (Water of Life). Before expanding my horisons, I was strictly a bourbon drinker with the sweet spice and woodiness of Jack Daniel's being my choice tipple. Add Cola or Passion Fruit Cordial, why not?...it tasted great. I tried some Scotch whisky but wasn't too pleased. Glenfiddich...if I wanted fruit juice I'd ask for it, Talisker...what's up with all that salt and pepper, Ardbeg...tastes like a bloody ashtray, but then my wife's family (of Scottish ancestry) introduced me to Cragganmore 12 year old...one sip and it sparked my imagination. I was in love.
Before long, the bug had bitten me and I couldn't keep up with all the new whiskies I wanted to taste. Glenmorangie, BenRiach, Balblair, Glendronach, my wallet was being emptied faster than it was filled but I was on a mission to taste as much whisky as I could. My fascination and interest in whisky grew in leaps and bounds and before long I was reading about pot stills and worm tubs, quercus alba and hogsheads, cask finishing and chill filtration...I was entranced. Slowly but surely, the peat reek also got a hold of me and I'm presently a certified peat head, with Laphroaig and Caol Ila among my favourite whiskies. BenRiach and Three Ships whiskies also hold a special place in my heart.
I started documenting my whisky journey on Twitter and later, Instagram and Facebok and love the interaction and debate among the interesting people of the whisky community, known as the Whisky Fabric. In 2018, I made the decision to interact further with the whisky community and introduce more people to the world of whisky, by presenting whisky tastings. I'm not a whisky expert, just an appreciator and aficionado, wanting to spread some knowledge about the golden nectar. I am committed to always furthering my whisky/spirits knowledge and in 2019, I completed the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 Award in Spirits followed, in 2021, by the Edinburgh Whisky Academy's Certificate in Scotch Whisky.
In 2020, I moved to Glasgow, Scotland to further my whisky education and to change my career path to be more whisky-oriented, and I look forward to the opportunities which await me. More information about the tastings is available here, so please do take a look. If you would like to know more about me, my tastings or whisky in general, please contact me via email and follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
